Benefits Of Adventure Recreation In Your Life
“Life is a daring adventure or nothing at all” – Helen Keller.
I don’t know whether you’re an adventurous folly or the one that enjoys deep slumber with no care given to what this nature has to offer. Being adventurous has it’s benefits only if you enjoy it to the core, with all your heart and soul. For it expands our mind, body and soul in ways, only an adventurer can feel or experience.
Mountain biking, going out in the wild, feeding the wanderlust, or trying out activities that takes you beyond your comfort level, adds so much depth to our lives. Life devoid of adventures may be secure, but taking risks, taking those baby steps once in a while, helps us to grow and expand, adds so much to our life, adds so much to feel alive and talk about. Isn’t that why we’re here. To be adventurous, to feel a little more alive, each day!
Benefits Of Adventure Recreation
Comfort Zone And You –
Once you’re through and done, you’d feel more confident, positive, creative and what not. You’ll realize the potential of what your mind and body is capable of. It boosts decisive power and reduces the reluctance we face before taking any risks. Expands our comfort zone, thus making you little more comfortable with things, once which you’re afraid to try.
Your mind appreciates it –
Following the same old routine adds nothing but tiredness and a sense of dullness to your mind. But if given something new and adventurous to try, your mind appreciates it in ways beyond your imagination. It boost the self-esteem, creativity, confidence. You feel exuberant to try something new every then and now. Prepare your body and mind to take/experience challenges. And that’s a good thing.
Prepares you to face/tolerate the uncertainties –
Adventures, are path paved with uncertainties, and how you cope with them, how you deal with them adds so much to your life. Your tolerance level increases, which prepares you to face every day challenges with ease. Develops the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at you.
Increased Sense of Awareness –
In a cubical, staring at a monitor, thumping keyboards, doesn’t add much to your awareness. You’ll never get to know how vast this nature is, how beautiful this earth is, if you do not go out and experience it. It adds so much to your spiritual growth when you feel alive, or feel the rustling of leaves out in the woods.
What Is Fear I Do Not Know –
Sky-diving, mountain-biking, or even asking the girl out are few things our new generation is so afraid of. But they aren’t the things that are backing us down, it’s the fear of “what if’s and that’s” which is holding us down. I’d say, say yes to things you’re afraid to try and get over it. Close your eyes, give fearful things a try and get over your fears and hesitations. Or other option would be to live life in regrets. Choice is yours.
You Get To Learn And Experience New –
Adventurous activities requires technical details and other information, of which an individual should be aware of. Activities like these rely more on trust, team-work, communication skills and what not. Helping others in uncertain circumstances boosts your confidence manifolds. In other words, it’s just a sheer opportunity to learn from the experiences and to be aware of all things, good and bad, in future.
Exercise Versus Adventure –
Mountain-biking, or hiking trails and mountains will certainly sweat you out, for good. The same you could do in a closed chamber(gym) as well. But when done out in wild, develops balance, uses more muscle groups and can take you on a journey in an uncontrolled environment that stimulates your brain with countless variables.
Teaches You To Live In The Moment –
In a classroom, you may be physically present and your mind may be wandering out questioning the existence of the universe and all. But you cannot do that when you’re living the adventure, when you’re into the adventure. It’s hard, it’s fatal. It teaches us to “live in the moment“, to experience it fully.
It’s thrilling –
Last, but not the least, adventures are what makes your blood race and your heart beat with anticipation as you expand beyond your perceived limitations as a human. They expand your horizon and take you into new and exciting worlds. When you feel the aliveness of experimenting with new options and taking risks, you learn the value of adventure in your life.
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.
– Helen Keller
It is only in adventure that some people succeed in knowing themselves – in finding themselves.
– Andre Gide
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. – Mark Twain
